About

FOMENO is an open-source pipeline for capturing and reconstructing intangible cultural heritage in XR. It was built by Orb Amsterdam and developed through the HERIFORGE Türkiye Hub, with a prototype produced at the archaeological site of Sagalassos.

The team

  • FOMENO was created by Orb Amsterdam, a creative technology studio that designs and builds immersive AR and VR experiences for museums, research institutions, and public spaces. You can find out more about the studio and the team at orbamsterdam.com.

Partners and acknowledgements

FOMENO was made possible by the people and organisations who supported, guided, and contributed to it:

  • HERIFORGE provided the funding for the current version of FOMENO and its prototype through its first Open Call. HERIFORGE is an EU-funded project building a network of hubs in Türkiye, Poland, and Cyprus for innovation in the cultural and creative industries through XR and cultural heritage.

  • Koç University is the HERIFORGE Türkiye Hub and our main mentor on the project, guiding its direction and its fit with the local cultural context.

  • The Sagalassos excavation team, led by Inge Uytterhoeven (Koç University), Jeroen Poblome (KU Leuven) and Peter Talloen (Bilkent University), gave valuable feedback on the historical context and content for the prototype.

  • Movement source and choreographic reference: Ninfe Nereidi Danze Antiche, Rome, Italy.

Licensing

FOMENO is a pipeline. It defines a set of steps and lists the tools that suit each one, described in full on the Pipeline page.

The pipeline documentation is published under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. You are free to use, adapt, and build on the method for non-commercial purposes, as long as you credit FOMENO and release anything you build on it under the same licence.

The FOMENO prototype app is © 2026 Orb Amsterdam, all rights reserved.

Each tool the pipeline references carries its own licence. Check the licence of any tool you use and make sure your use of it complies, as that responsibility is yours.
